The Touch Wood Story

Touch Wood is a workshop and reclaimed wood store run  EMERGE Recycling.

Run by EMERGE Recycling, we work in partnership with the National Community Wood Recycling Project, a nationwide network of community wood recycling organisations who collect and repurpose waste timber.

Since setting up shop in 2013, we have brought countless tonnes of waste wood back into reuse and helped businesses across the North West to make a greater contribution to sustainability.

The Collection Service
Our collection service is also delivered by EMERGE Recycling, a pioneering social enterprise that has been providing recycling services in Greater Manchester since 1996.

Collections range from relatively small jobs, such as wood pallets, through to major projects like the collection and reprocessing of the entire original Manchester Velodrome track in 2018.

The Sorting Process
We bring the wood back to our depot in Manchester, where it’s sorted and divided between stock for resale and stock for our workshop. In the workshop, qualified joiners work with volunteers to create a wide range of beautiful, practical products by hand.

We’re a trusted supplier to schools, children’s centres, builders, professional craftspeople, homeowners and businesses alike.

Why Touch Wood?
When you buy from Touch Wood, your purchase not only offers a new lease of life to a piece of timber and reduces the need to cut down virgin forest, but you will also be helping disadvantaged people gain the confidence and skills needed to live a richer life.
